Tsunami Disaster Appeal               How much have you raised? - Click here

Many of you have asking what the Federation and/or ACWW are doing for this disaster and after much consideration and discussion with the Officers at ACWW headquarters we have decided to mount an appeal for funds to be given for projects in the devastated areas.

ACWW has organisations in the areas concerned that are looking into projects to help with reconstruction and it is long term funding that they are looking for; it could be a school in Sri Lanka, clean water plant in Indonesia or some other project.

In launching this appeal straight away and asking for all money to be returned to the WI Centre by 30th September 2005 we look forward to presenting ACWW with a substantial cheque. Please make cheques payable to FEWI and mark them ACWW Tsunami Appeal.

Pennies for Friendship money should be sent in the usual way as this money is not part of the appeal.

Please do not forget that we are still collecting foreign money and you can bring this to the County Half Yearly Meeting where Anne Newman will be pleased to accept it or take it to the WI Centre.

Good luck with your fundraising.

32. TSUNAMI DISASTER FUND

The Executive Committee considered apphcatsons for funding from the following Member Societies of ACVWV and the comments on them from the Area President for Central and South Asia. They were informed that the total donations to date were £15,000.

a) Pache Trust — Tamil Nadu, India.

b) Bethany Ministries — Secunderabad, India.

c) People's Life Centre — Thiruchy, India.

d) Integrated Education and Development Society — Tamil Nadu, India

e) Pimpinan Pusat, Perwari — Indonesia.

f) Society of Daughters of Mary Immaculate & Collaborators — Chennai, India.

It was noted that all of these applications — with the exception of that from Pimpinan Pusat, Perwari - required funds in excess of the resources available. It was therefore agreed that all these Societies should be offered financial assistance for smaller items to help with their recovery plans. These might include mattresses, supplies for kindergartens, agricultural tools, fishing nets etc.

The Executive then drew up a framework for the management of funds raised through this Disaster Fund. This included that:

• Funds should only be allocated to Member Societies of ACWW, in affected areas, who were non   Government Organisations that had the ability to carry out small rehabilitation or construction projects.

• Funds would be used for projects that would allow people or communities to re-build their lives.

• Funds would be allocated by the Executive Committee.

• Projects funded would be monitored by the World President.

• The fund should be kept open until December 2006.
