EVENING. W.I.(FORMED
1960) |
We meet on the second
Thursday of the month at 7.45pm in St.John’s Hall, St. John’s Road, Stansted.
Currently we have over 50 members and have welcomed several new ones during the
last year. We find that we are attracting those women who have recently retired
from work and are looking for companionship. We try to have a class every year,
and have recently done Watercolour classes, flower arranging and line-dancing
which some members have continued since at a local group. We arrange 2 or 3
theatre trips to London each year and are looking forward to seeing ‘Calendar
Girls’ in April. We also do a shopping trip in November usually to Norwich as
well as taking part in County organised trips.
We take part in various village events and are well known for our cakes and
catering. For fund –rising we have recently organised a ‘flog-it’ evening which
was well supported and are planning a quiz evening in April and a flower
demonstration and tea in October.
We offer a speaker at every meeting and sometimes arrange social times in which
members take part. Future speakers include: - Keith Baldwin – ‘All the Queen’s
Horses and All the Queen’s Men (and women), Michael Rowley - The work of the
Essex Wildlife Trust and Sue Sincock ‘City of London’.
