Based in Broomfield on the outskirts of Chelmsford, we are an evening Institute that meets on the 1st Wednesday of every month (except August) at 7.45 p.m. in Broomfield Community Centre, Main Road, Broomfield.

Our membership numbers over 90 with a wide age range and interests.

Our annual programme of speakers covers a huge variety of topics and each month we hold a competition to tie in with the speaker’s subject matter, which always attracts a large number of entries.

We organise several trips out each year – to the theatre, either locally or London, to the coast, to a stately home, for example – and perhaps our most popular evenings always include a meal, home-cooked and prepared by the 10 strong committee.

On a serious note, every May a Discussions Evening is held to examine the year’s resolutions for the National Federation’s Annual Meeting. Two members put the case for and against each item before a vote is taken for the delegate to convey to the Annual Meeting. We also support the County Federation in many of their activities - the WI is a great place to meet like-minded women and to learn new things.
