Crafts
Morning - February
Roughly 12 members gathered in one of our members home
to make fancy gift boxes, we are going to use them for
the jewellery we make plus selling them to raise ever
needed funds. It is a amazing how many boxes were made
considering all the chat and la ughter
going on – still a very enjoyable Monday morning, beats
doing the washing.
Bowling morning
Another fun and friendship morning, 8 members enjoyed
the delights of ten pin bowling, not serious matches,
just fun and chatter, also a lovely cup of coffee thrown
in.

Annual Pancake Tossing Competition
Black Notley, Great and Little Leighs and Great Notley
held their annual Pancake race with a difference. Due to
the tender ages of members from all three WIs, it was
decided to hold a “Pancake Tossing Competition” in Great
Notley Community Hall. Great & Little Leighs were this
years winners, reclaiming the trophy. Before the tossing
we had quick quiz followed by a lunch of Hot Jacket
Potato with cheese or tuna, salad, tea/coffee and
biscuits, and generally catching up with our fellow WI
members.

| Great Notley
triumphed again at the Braintree Carnival on
Saturday June 6th. The theme this year was
“The Four Seasons”, and walked away with 2nd
prize, of the four years we have been taking
part we have always been in the top three
places, winning first in 2007. |
|
| Below
are some of our activities during 2008 |
Were you at the carnival on
Saturday June 10th? If so you will have seen Great
Notley’s entry “Angels and Demons”, it was a good effort
and we managed to come 3rd. Thanks goes to all our hard
working carnival committee members plus honorary
husbands who help put the float together, not forgetting
John Cousins who allows us to use his trailer and does
the driving.
Great Notley
is a very modern WI with a busy agenda, including:- ten
pin bowling, crafts, coffee mornings, local community
work, to name but a few, so if you feel we are for you,
please come along and join the fun, find us on the 1st
Monday of the month, 10am at the Great Notley Community
Hall. |
Great Notley WI held their Macmillan Coffee
Morning in October, we raised £282.33p for this worth while cause

AWAITING PHOTO |
Great Notley Village fete
held on July 4th this year, was fortunate enough to have a
very warm sunny day, bringing the crowds out in force, our
WI once again supplied the tea and cakes and also manned a
craft stall with various items of cards, jewellery, knit
ware and home-made cakes. Because of the lovely weather it
was a great success, bringing much-needed funds for the
community. The photo shows members with our president Eileen
Hainsworth 3rd from left, all ready and willing to relieve
the people of their money.
Our next big event is the Macmillan Cancer “Biggest Coffee
Morning in the World” to be held at the community centre,
Great Notley on September 26th, please come along and
support this very worthy cause.
